After lots of research on waterproof cases for the iPhone I finally decided on the frē for my recent trip to the Yucatan peninsula. I spent 12 days crossing the peninsula from Merida to Tulum and then up the coast to Cozumel and finally Isla Mujeres. I climbed ruins, swam in cenotes, and played on the white sand beaches.
Since this was a once in a lifetime trip and the iPhone was my only camera, I was concerned about the potential for cases to degrade photo quality. I took lots of photos and can't tell any difference between ones taken with the case and those taken without it.
I didn't have any problems with sound quality or with the touch sensitivity of the screen or the TouchID on the phone. Everything worked great.
While I didn't take the phone underwater swimming, the frē did a great job of protecting the phone from several rain showers, the sandy beaches and even a fall onto pavement from a golf cart. The phone fell from my lap to the pavement and skid across the street. I feared the worse, but when I retrieved the phone it was in perfect condition and the case only showed a little wear on one corner. The screen protector was as good as new.
The only drawback I can see in the frē is for those who are heavy headphone users. You'll have to use the included headphone adaptor–which isn't that convenient. But it is a trade off you'll have to make for waterproofing you phone. For me it isn't an issue since I don't use my headphones often.
All in all, the frē is a great product that performs wonderfully. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and I highly recommend it.
